“An evolving India envisions itself as Vishwamitr (friend of the universe). The solidarity we displayed with the global community in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic speaks for itself. Today, there’s no need for me to proclaim that India is a friend to the world; the world acknowledges that India is indeed our friend,” he remarked.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India envisions itself as a ‘Vishwamitr,’ with the world acknowledging the country as its friend. Speaking at an event held at Kanha Shanti Vanam, approximately 50 km from the capital, the prime minister emphasized the significant losses India faced when past oppressors targeted its traditions such as yoga, knowledge, and ayurveda.
In reflecting on India’s current stance, Modi remarked, “A developing India sees itself as Vishwamitr (friend of the universe). The way we stood with the world after the coronavirus, today I don’t need to tell the world that India is your friend; the world says India is our friend.” This statement seemed to allude to India’s distribution of domestically produced COVID-19 vaccines to numerous countries following the global outbreak of the pandemic in 2020.
